Cynthia Johnson
Cynthia Johnson resides in Memphis, TN. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Akron. Married to Eric Johnson, an electrophysiologist, they have two grown children together, Tyler and Emily. Emily was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in 1998 and is an adult who continues to live with autism. In 2013, with two other parents of autistic children, Cynthia co-founded the Arc of Northwest MS chapter, a 501(c)3 non-profit that advocates for individuals of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She was a member of the board from 2014-2017.
Currently, Cynthia is serving as a representative of West Tennessee on the Tennessee Council on Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Cynthia is the former Vice-President of the board of directors for the Memphis Speech and Hearing Center which is affiliated with the University of Memphis. The center supports treatment programs such as swallowing and feeding, speech and language, and alternative/augmentative communication therapies, as well as the Hanen Program. Cynthia is also a former board member of Thrive Memphis. Thrive is a non-profit organization with a day program that strives to support the social and recreational aspects of the special needs’ population in the greater Memphis area.
In addition to advocacy for those that are not able to do so for themselves, Cynthia has been researching, planning, and designing an environmentally sustainable infrastructure to help people with disabilities live and thrive in a society of their peers. Home Life Community is that dream realized.
